On Monday LC and I made our way by train to Madrid. The train ride involved two stops at nondescript towns and a 14 hour trip all together. We arrived at our hostel at 11pm had a shower and hit the hay.
When we woke up in the morning we were pleasantly surprised to find that our hostel, as well as being comfortable and clean was also in a really good area AND had free wireless (big bonus). We got our gear together and went for a short walk down to plazo Mayor, a square filled with cute cafes and of course a central statue. There were street performers everywhere and an amazing atmosphere.
From there we made our way west, stopping by the mercado st miguel for a churro and to buy some summer fruit. We walked passed the Palacio Real and went down to the piscina at Casa del Campo. It was the most beautiful pool ever. Sparking clear blue water and a grotto garden around the outside. It was the most luxurious day, sitting by the pool, eating cherries and going for a dip. I am finally actually starting to get a tan- bring on the Vitamin D!!!
After the pool we went to dinner on a side street terrace filled with tables. We had Tostidas with ham and amazing goats cheese as well as a salad with blue cheese and roasted nuts. The place had the most amazing (and cheap) sangria. after that we were in a pretty good mood so we decided to hit the town and see what madrid had to offer. We started out at an Irish pub and had cosmos, and then moved on to a salsa place. Lauren got taught how to salsa dance by a french boy, it was very amusing to watch. We left there and bumped into a couple of nice spanish girls who took us to a bar that had dancing. They were really nice and I think wanted to practice their english- they were very fluent! We got home a little later than we expected, but overall had a fantastic night!
