I had no specific things that I wanted to see in Bordeaux, so seeming as it was delightfully hot LC and I decided to go for a swim (after all, we are on holidays). Unfortunately bordeaux has no beach and we missed the train to Arcachon, so instead we took the tram a la plaige du la lac. There was a cute little swiming area (with heaps of kids :S ) so we found a nice patch of grass and started woking on our tans. An ice cold can of perrier and some yummy seeds and nuts made it the perfect day.
Later that night we went down to a cute bar on the river and had a drink, mmmm Martini's. The waiter was kinda cute too.
On Sunday I had planned on hiring a bike and going for a bit of a velo-tour, but alas, everything is closed on sundays in Bordeaux. I MEAN EVERYTHING!!!! So instead i decided i was going to go and climb the other gothic bell tower: Pey Berland tower, next to St Andrews Cathedral. The tower was named after the archbishop who commissioned the building in 1440, and who also founded the university of Bordeaux. The bell tower, surprisingly, did not get fitted with a bell until 1853. For a while it was divided into dwelling and even used as a shot tower, for making shotgun pellets. On top of the tower sits A large copper statute of Our Lady of Aquitaine, a depiction of the madonna with the Infant Jesus stroking a dove. It weighs 1.3 tonnes!
After that I went down to the Jardin Publique to lie in the sun. I got totally sunburnt! But the garden was really pretty. I walked home via the boardwalk and went for a paddle through the aquapark they have there. its pretty cool, ankle deep water to splash around in. I would have loved it as a kid!
On the last night LC and I went out to dinner along the river. We had seen people eating moules et frittes and were intrigued, so decided to give it a go. I love Muscles and from the looks of things they were a bit of a Bordeaux speciality. YUM! LC and I shared the Moules, frittes and a salad and had some yummy french wine. After we went back to the bar that had the cute waiter (he was disappointingly missing) and had a relaxing drink while watching the world float pass. We probably stayed up a little too late considering our early train ride, ohh well!
